Go Minelabbing in Santa Barbara May 18th on National Metal Detecting Day

Santa Barbara will host metal detectorists from across North America May 18th on the beach in front of Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort, 633 East Cabrillo Boulevard, beginning at 8 a.m. Santa Barbara, along with Atlantic City, N.J., Toronto, Canada, and Rio de Janeiro are the four cities on two continents hosting National Metal Detecting Day, sponsored by Minelab Americas. Detectorists will gather to participate in the world’s largest simultaneous gathering of detectorists. Read story.

New Emplyee Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara

Shannon Kelly recently joined Girls Inc. of Greater Santa Barbara as the Associate Director of Development. Shannon has over 8 years of experience in non-profit fund development. She graduated from Westminster College of SLC with a BA in English and later earned a graduate certificate in non-profit management at the University of Oregon. Shannon completed an MA degree in Rhetoric, Composition, and Professional Communication from Iowa State University. Originally from Utah, Shannon and her daughter Bree have very much enjoyed living in the Santa Barbara community since 2008 and plan to stay “forever.” Shannon’s daughter Bree has been attending Girls Inc. at GVC since 2010. Arlington Tavern Celebrates One-Year Anniversary & Kicks Off Seasonal Menus and Special Events

Arlington Tavern recently celebrated their one-year anniversary, hosting a party to commemorate their successful first year open. Co-owners and longtime friends Chef Ron True and Diego Barbieri welcomed the public for fine local beer and wines, and delicious bites of tavern favorites. The celebration was particularly commemorative for Chef Ron True, whose second job ever in the culinary world – over 20 years ago – was at SOhO Restaurant, which used to be located in the very same building where Arlington Tavern now resides, at 21 W. It's Time to Get On Board

Remember the fun and imagination of model railroads? The Parkinson Association of Santa Barbara is sponsoring its annual RAILROAD DAYS fundraiser on Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th from 10AM – 5PM. The event takes place at 1143 Camino Viejo in Montecito. Operators from local railroad clubs will be running indoor HO scale model trains and G scale outdoor trains all day. Children and adults of all ages will have a great time! There will be food, raffle prizes and a special scavenger hunt for the kids. Entry fee is $5 per person and free for children age 2 and under.
