Great idea! A separated Class 1 bike path is so much safer than a Class 2 bike lane along a busy road.

Shame on the Independent for opposing Measure P last November! This is exactly the kind of corporate malfeasance that we need to protect ourselves from. These incidents will continue to happen as long as we tolerate them. Let's put an end to it now. Get Oil Out of Santa Barbara County.

What credentials does Laura Capps have to be our Representative in Congress? Besides being the daughter of Lois and Walter, who is she? What has she done for this community?

We need to start naming names. For anyone in the Goodland who is concerned about preserving what's Good about Goleta, then look to those on the City Council who continue to promote more development: Aceves, Bennett, and Vallejo. This is the pro-growth, pro-development majority that constitutes the majority. Blame them.

A few degrees change in the global temperature might not sound that bad to some, but when we start seeing the acidification and ecological collapse of our oceans, then maybe people will pay attention.... If it's not too late.

The News-Press is completely lacking any shred of journalistic integrity. This case is utter pettiness.

Congratulations, Goleta! This is great news. The health and safety risks associated with this oil processing facility are too great to have within the city. The facility is in close proximity to the Ellwood neighborhood, the Ellwood Bluffs open space and nature preserve, the Bacara resort, and Sandpiper Golf Course. It is also in the midst of an intertidal zone near two Marine Protected Areas and designated Critical Habitat, and hosts several endangered and threatened species. Thank you to the Goleta City Council for taking steps to protect its residents, businesses, and natural resources.

I voted no on the tax, but I probably would have voted yes if they had gone with the 12% rate (consistent with other municipalities in the county) instead of upping the ante to 12.5%.

I am doubtful that this ice rink will serve the needs of the larger community, beyond the well-to-do who will be able to afford the fees. I don't see the working families of Goleta benefiting from this. Further, it sure seems like a large investment (ie, waste) of resources -- water and power.

If Goleta can have an ice rink to the tune of $15 million, why not a skate park, which is near the top of the list in Goleta's "Recreation Needs Assessment" surveys? I can't see a few skating plazas around town costing nearly this much.

What a magnificent open space / park that land would make! There are much better uses than a golf course that would far better serve the community.
