Its not public land, its land donated by the owner of the property specifically for this use.

Well Ken doesn't speak for everyone and there is a sizable hockey contingent in this town. I for one am tired of driving to Oxnard twice a week just to play. I'd like to get this thing built asap.

Ron Paul is the only one that doesn't make me want to kick a puppy every time he opens his mouth. The other three are just awful. I have no worries about the President getting re-elected this year.

Dying to go to this, but I've got Fleet Foxes tickets for the Bowl that same night. So bummed, I'd love to see these guys at Soho.

Love the bowl but I figured everyone else would vote for that so I pick Soho, I love seeing shows at Soho. I've only seen one concert at the Arlington and the sound was the worst I've ever experienced. Lots of cracking and popping, almost as if every speaker in the joint was broken. Heard good things about the Lobero, but never been there. As for another venue not listed, The Hub at UCSB, of course when I was in school there the layout was different than it is now for a show.

As a golfer I won't be sad to see Ocean Ghettos go away, what a horrible course. Greens were always in bad shape, fairways a mess. Nice that it will be returned to wetlands and not some ridiculous development.

SantaNa, the facts are that Borders failed and it had nothing to do with the landlord. If you knew anything about commercial real estate, you'd know that they've been trying to get out of that lease for years. The worst kept secret in town is not just that you are a moron, but that Borders had been trying to sublease that spot for years.
Leases don't get doubled or tripled just because a building is sold, but again, your ignorance about how commercial real estate shows through. No tenant, especially one with an army of lawyers like Borders, would allow a clause like that in a lease.
Go ahead and keep making baseless, uninformed arguments though.

SantaNa you wouldn't know your arse from a hole in the ground. The rent was never tripled. And the old store manager knows nothing about the rent, because the accounting department in the corporate office cuts the rent checks, the general managers onsite for national tenants usually know nothing about items like that. Borders was circling the drain before SIMA bought the building last April, but you wouldn't know anything about that. Love this town, something goes wrong with a business and it must be the landlord, which is why the entire company declared Chapter 11. My God you're stupid.

I've had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Robert a few times, a wonderful down to earth guy who really knows what he's doing, we need more people in this town who run their business like him. Wish him nothing but the best of success.
