Nick, great column, interesting and enlightening. But UCSB as "... largely an academic lagoon where the low-achieving children of California’s affluent classes could stumble around in inebriated stupors until they found themselves or fell off a cliff." C'mon now. My father was a hardware clerk. And a lot of us turned out pretty well. I won't comment on alcoholic stupors.Chuck McFadden '59.
