It is critical that the community (the people of California) realize that this is a round of cuts coming after 3 or 4 consecutive years of cuts - we have already cut to the bone. Education needs to be made a priority because it is literally bleeding to death in our state. I hope we can get some momentum and support behind the legislation to increase school funding, because without it, we are amputating!Get Brown's legislation on the ballot, and talk to your neighbors about it, please. It's passage is critical to the financial outlook of our schools.

Yes, Waller is the same person who had the great idea of serving dinner to the highest bidders... (oil execs won), and now she is bringing her buddies to the party. Really, can't we find better (local) candidates to fill these jobs, including Wallers!?!

Well said, Paguras. And is Waller the same employee who has allowed top oil execs to buy her time and ear, while serving them dinner? Wow... sounds like some serious judgement issues from Waller and Bahl...

STOP PAVING MY LAND! Farm it (or leave it forever) - create an interactive, sustainable farm. Open it to the community for events, food purchase, enjoyment...DO NOT CHANGE THE ZONING, and don't let that LA-type special interest fool or bully you into it! There should be a law against those big $ special interests being able to sue the publicly funded city council - it is bullying; Let them be heard through the venue and process any other public member does.

Thank You, Paul, for stating so well, what I have been thinking. As a former GATE teacher, I completely agree. To add to this, I found our current GATE system actually was a disservice to some GATE students. I felt that GATE should be for all gifted children, not just those who were high scoring. I had a bright young student, who wasn't motivated by grades, and was kicked out of his GATE classes. I felt he was one of my students MOST in need of what a GATE class should be - a nurturing place for special students; not a class for high achievers.Furthermore, our districts GATE structure with single-subject GATE classes is not one I have seen in any other district I have taught (4 districts, 2 states). I believe because it is very inefficient and creates huge inequalities.I fully support the secondary districts efforts to scrap this GATE program. We have other programs and levels of coursework that create sufficient challenges for students, such as IB, honors, and subject specific academies. Hopefully we will see an expansion in these programs with this restructuring.
