  • ...Critical Fire Weather Conditions likely Saturday through
Tuesday for portions of Southwest California due to gusty
north to northeast winds...low humidities...and hot
    temperatures...
.Gusty northwest to north winds will continue across much of
Southwest California this afternoon into tonight following the
passage of an upper level trough. While there will be elevated
fire danger due to these strong winds, humidities are not
expected to be sufficiently low to reach critical conditions.
However, by early Saturday morning, gusty northerly winds combined
with lowering humidities will likely bring critical fire weather
conditions to the mountains...especially across the Santa Ynez
    range and Interstate 5 corridor.
As the flow turns more northeast Sunday through Tuesday, there
will be a significant warming and drying trend across all of
Southwest California, with the potential for critical fire
weather conditions extending into the valleys and coastal areas
of Los Angeles and Ventura counties. The most critical fire
weather conditions are expected Monday through Tuesday, when
there will be a combination of Santa Ana winds gusting to between
40 and 50 mph, record breaking triple digit heat, humidities
lowering into the single digits, and very dry fuels. In addition,
very warm and dry conditions during the overnight hours in the
mountains, foothills, and wind prone areas will add to this fire
weather threat during this long duration of dangerous fire weather
conditions. If fire ignition occurs, there will be the potential
for very rapid spread of wildfire with long range spotting and
extreme fire behavior that could lead to a threat to life and
    property.
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH
TUESDAY AFTERNOON FOR GUSTY NORTHEAST WINDS AND LOW RELATIVE
HUMIDITY FOR THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SAN GABRIEL VALLEY...
    * Winds...Northeast winds 10 to 20 mph with gusts to 35 mph in the
foothills on Sunday, increasing to 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 40
    mph Monday through Tuesday.
    * Relative Humidity...Minimum values 8 to 15 percent on Sunday,
lowering to 5 to 10 percent Monday and Tuesday.
    * Temperatures...Max temperatures 92 to 98 degrees on Sunday,
rising to between 100 and 105 degrees Monday into Tuesday. Very
warm overnight low temperatures in the foothills and wind prone
areas...remaining 75 to 80 degrees in warmest locations.
    * Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, there will be the potential
for very rapid spread of wildfire with long range spotting and
extreme fire behavior that could lead to a threat to life and
    property.
