  • Fire Weather Watch for Catalina Island County, California
  • Fire Weather Watch issued June 21 at 9:26AM PDT until June 22 at 9:00PM PDT by NWS
  • Effective: Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at 9:26 a.m.
  • Expires: Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 9 p.m.
  • ...FIRE WEATHER WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH
THURSDAY EVENING OVER THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND
    ANTELOPE VALLEY...
.A strong ridge of high pressure will change little through the
week, maintaining near record heat and low humidities over
interior sections through at least Thursday. While winds have
been relatively light so far this week, onshore flow is expected
to strengthen on Thursday. With this expected wind increase,
continuing hot and dry conditions, and drying fuels/vegetation,
the risk for extreme fire behavior will be on the rise.
As a result...a Fire Weather Watch will continue for the areas
with the strongest expected winds...namely the Antelope Valley and
interior mountains of Los Angeles County. This does not include
the Santa Monica Mountains. A watch is an outlook for possible Red
Flag Warning conditions. A conversion to a Red Flag Warning will
be considered with the afternoon forecast package.
...FIRE WEATHER WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM THURSDAY MORNING
THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY OVER
THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY MOUNTAINS AND ANTELOPE VALLEY...
    * Winds...Southwest 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Localized
20 to 30 mph with gusts to 45 mph in the interior foothills.
    * Relative Humidity...Minimums of 3 to 15 percent. Lowest in
higher elevations and interior foothills into the Antelope
    Valley.
    * Temperatures...Maximums of 100 to 110 in the Antelope Valley
and lower mountains, and 85 to 95 in the higher elevations.
    * Impacts...If fire ignition occurs, conditions may be favorable
for extreme fire behavior which would threaten life and
    property.
