This Saturday, April 7 marks the second annual Island View Classic bicycle race to be held in downtown Isla Vista. The event will include professional and amateur races, as well as a street fair and “bicycle rodeo” for the kids. Races will begin at 8 a.m. and end at 6 p.m., keeping many I.V. streets closed to traffic for most of Saturday. Courses will run through the Embarcadero loop and cause closures to Cordoba, Embarcadero Del Mar, and Embarcadero Del Norte.

The Classic-hosted by the USCB Cycling Team and sponsored by the Towbes Group-will begin with pro races, followed by intercollegiate and costumed races later in the day. You won’t want to miss the Firestone/Walker Cruiser Criterium at 3:45, where County Supervisors Janet Wolf and Brooks Firestone will go head-to-head with community members in a four lap fight to the finish.

With the addition of a street fair-featuring local businesses and organizations selling food and apparel-attendance is sure to top the nearly 200 cyclists who took part last year. Proceeds from some of the events will go to benefit the UCSB Cycling Team, as well as Isla Vista Skatepark, an IV Recreation and Parks District project.
