The Skinny: Influenced by the political bands she listened to as a teenager in Germany, lead singer Silvie Pussycat began fronting her own garage bands – including The Cockroach Candies – and writing for a punk rock fanzine. After reviewing the SB band the Derita Sisters, she was convinced to move to the West Coast, literally overnight – really. (She woke up one morning with a bad hangover and found herself married and in the USA). Now Silvie’s brought together an all-star ensemble to fill a void in Santa Barbara’s punk-rock scene.
In this age of downloadable music, Silent Meow wants to invite people to the very real experience of a live show. The band hopes that through their concerts they’ll get people to, “rip off their clothes, get naked goosebumps, and support the local music scene.” Putting a fresh spin on the obvious Debbie Harry comparisons plastered on any female-fronted punk band, Silvie Pussycat is boldly screaming her way into a male-dominated genre and plans on kicking ass.
