Three homeless men – Robert Sladek, 38; Russell Mell, 39; and Brian Rose, 40 – were booked on suspicion of beating another homeless man to death. Sheriff’s deputies found 49-year-old Charles Johnson’s body at a transient encampment near the 4100 block of State Street early on 6/14. The three suspects are being held in the Santa Barbara County jail without bail. The coroner’s report is currently pending.
