Preliminary Hearing Date Set in Juarez Case

A preliminary hearing date of August 7 was set in the case of 14-year-old Ricardo Juarez, who has been charged as an adult in the March stabbing murder of Luis Angel Linares, 15. After several previous delays by the defense, Judge Brian Hill, Deputy District Attorney Hilary Dozer, and public defender Karen Atkins agreed to the date Friday in Santa Barbara Superior Court. Atkins said she expected the hearing to take seven to 10 days, which was longer than both Dozer and Hill expected.
