State Legislature Passes Healthcare Bill

After nine months of negotiations, the State Legislature passed AB 8 on Mondaya broad healthcare reform bill that could bring coverage to at least half of the state’s 6.5 million uninsured residents. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger vowed to veto it, as it veered significantly from his goal of universal coverage and shared responsibility. He also said he would call the Legislature into a special session so that perhaps a compromise could be reached.
