Raspberry Lime Rickey

If you, like me, had too many limes on hand after Fiesta and don’t want to keep making margaritas, here’s a cocktail with a very different profile that takes advantage of the raspberries available now, too (even TJ’s has decent organic ones). Muddle 12 raspberries in a cocktail shaker.

George Lopez. Star. Spanglish. Banter.

“‘Member? You ‘member.” The rallying cry for George Lopez was introduced to me a little over a year ago when my roommate and I sat down to watch Why You Crying?, Lopez’s 2005 standup show. Since my roommate’s a first-generation Mexican-American, it made sense that Lopez would have her cracking up; I, on the other hand, was pretty certain Lopez’s humor would go right over my Caucasian head.

And if that’s not confusing enough, try the opening of the film.

Rush Hour 3

If there’s a role model for summer romps lacking invention, conviction, or even enough good ideas to warrant the use of celluloid or film reels, it may well be the shameless claptrap that is the third Rush Hour film. Funny thing is, though, the natural affliction of bland-ifying sequelitis and cynical, phone-it-in compromises don’t hurt the viewer as much as it should.

Alejandro Escovedo’s Big Comeback

Having blazed a defiant musical path to become one of the most dynamic and lauded musicians of our time, in 2003 Alejandro Escovedo’s life took a dramatic turn. The Texan collapsed while on stage in Arizona and fell critically ill as a result of the medication that was meant to be saving his life. Not only did Escovedo battle his way back to health with grace and humility, he did so with a renewed lust for life.
