EPA Rejects California’s Fuel Economy Standards

Tam Hunt of the Community Environmental Council blasted the recent decision by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson to deny California’s request to impose tougher fuel economy standards on cars and trucks as morally, politically, and practically insupportable. Johnson stated that his denial was due to recent revisions to the Clean Air Act, which increased the mileage requirement on new cars for the first time since 1975.
