Juno: Music from the Motion Picture
The soundtrack to Jason Reitman’s touching feature film is not your average movie mixed tape, but then again, the flick’s pint-sized, pregnant heroine is not exactly your average teenager. An eclectic mix of old favorites (The Kinks’ “A Well Respected Man”) and newer gems (Belle & Sebastian’s “Piazza, New York Catcher”) play the supporting role here, providing a much-needed history lesson to complement the film’s love of all things rock ‘n’ roll. But when all is said and done, it’s the former Moldy Peaches songbird, Kimya Dawson, who steals Juno’s musical scenes. Dawson’s child-like voice, simplistic chords, and whimsical storytelling not only mirrors the saucy naivete of Ellen Page’s character, but provides listeners with a case of the musically induced warm ‘n’ fuzzies.
