Sheryl Schroeder

Losing a loved one is perhaps one of the hardest things a human being can endure, and when said loved one is a parent, the emotional repercussions are even greater. Since losing her mother, Mary, to pancreatic cancer in December, Santa Barbara artist Sheryl Schroeder has braved her loss with a positive attitude and fond memories, thanks in large part to a strong support system and great friends. In celebration of her mom’s life and as a way of saying “thanks” to the wonderful people at Santa Barbara’s Sarah House (a one-of-a-kind holistic and hospice care facility for low-income individuals nearing the end of their lives), Sheryl and her friends have decided to host a fundraiser, benefit, and tribute concert this Saturday, February 9, at Muddy Waters Cafe (508 E. Haley St.) at 6 p.m.

“My good friends Randy and Traci from San Luis Obispo came up with the idea,” said Sheryl. “I barely knew Randy and Traci. I had met them a few years back, spent some time with them at a couple of shows. : They came up with this idea to help me out; have an art show with some bands playing to raise money. Originally, they were going to do this to help pay some of my mom’s bills because I was having a difficult time juggling all of the details when she no longer could. Then, when my mom died so rapidly, they still wanted to put it on!”

The result: an extraordinary night of live music (The Cash Prophets, Demonika & the Darklings, and DJ Rummy Munster will perform), dance, art performances, tarot readings, and an eclectic art sale which will benefit the folks of Sarah House. Admission to the event is $3 before 8 p.m. and $10 thereafter.
