After a mounting a nationwide search for a new president, the Board of Trustees of the Santa Barbara City College District announced their selection today. Andreea Serban-the current Vice Chancellor of Technology and Learning Services of the South Orange County Community College District in Mission Viejo-will replace the current president, John Romo, as he is scheduled to retire on June 30. Prior to serving with the South Orange County Community College District, Serban was Associate Vice President for Information Technology, Research and Planning at Santa Barbara City College.

The selection was made after the Board of Trustees considered the recommendations of a selection committee composed of students faculty and staff at Santa Barbara City College, as well as looking at site visits and a public forum that was held for candidates on March 12. Other candidates considered for the position included Jack Friedlander, the Executive Vice President of Santa Barbara City College, and Blaine Nisson, President of Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. The Board will finalize employment contract specifications at its upcoming meeting, the date of which is yet to be announced.
