CAMA Announces 2008-2009 Season
Highlights include Ads, Bartoli
In its 90th season bringing the finest classical musicians from around the world to Santa Barbara, CAMA (Community Arts Music Association) is holding two music series at the Granada and the Lobero.
Moving from the Arlington Theatre, the International series takes place at the newly restored Granada Theatre and presents the best classical orchestras and soloists. This year’s lineup boasts big names such as Cecilia Bartoli, the four time Grammy Award winning mezzo-soprano, in her first S.B. performance in recital on Thursday, February 19, 2009. Also performing in this series is the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra with conductor Leon Botstein and Robert McDuffie on violin. Their performance takes place on Wednesday, October 29, 2008. The San Francisco Symphony comes on Saturday, January 24, 2009 with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. The Academy of Ancient Music performs with conductor Richard Egarr on Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Thursday, March 26, 2009 the Estonian National Symphony stops by with conductor Eri Klas and pianist Joyce Yang. To round out the fantastic series the Los Angeles Philharmonic performs with conductor Hans Graf and Kirill Gerstein on piano Saturday, May 2, 2009.
The Masterseries is being held at the Lobero Theatre and will include some of the best chamber musicians and recitalists in the world. This is the eighth season of the series being held under CAMA’s sponsorship. Piotr Anderszewski will play piano in recital on Thursday, October 16, 2008. Pianist Thomas Ads, the youngest-ever winner of the Grawemeyer Prize in 2000, and violinist Anthony Marwood, recipient of the 2006 Instrumentalist of the Year award at the Royal Philharmonic Society, headline in recital on Monday, November 17, 2008. Violinist Cristian Tetzlaff performs in recital on Tuesday, December 2, 2008. The Australian Chamber Orchestra ends the great season on Wednesday, April 22, 2009. This orchestra has Richard Tognetti as their artistic director and Andreas Scholl as the countertenor.
