The Carpinteria Unified School District joins the Afterschool Alliance in this year’s Lights On Afterschool, a nationwide series of rallies in support of afterschool programs, on Thursday, October 16, from 3-6 p.m. at Catalino Elementary School (1480 Linden Ave.). This year marks the 10th anniversary of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers initiative, the principal funding stream for afterschool programs. Community members are invited to celebrate the occasion while drawing attention to the need for more afterschool programs. There will be exhibitions of student enrichment activities featuring art activities, jump roping, math games for families, a soccer match, and a special visit by Congressmember Lois Capps. Afterschool programs keep kids safe, help working families, and inspire learning. Free. Call 684-4141 or visit afterschoolalliance.org for more info.
