Conceived by Goleta’s Tim Hoover, the Ultimate Boarder Competition was named the best new sports event in America at the 2008 SportsTravel Awards in Pittsburgh last weekend. A modern-day triathlon of sorts, the Ultimate Boarder Competition tests athletes in the disciplines of surfing, skateboarding, and snowboarding and was first held this past spring, with sea and pavement portions in Ventura and snow in Lake Tahoe.
