UCSB Art Museum Gets Getty Grant
$140,000 from the Getty Foundation Will Sponsor Cliff May Research
The UCSB University Art Museum was recently given a $140,000 grant from the Getty Foundation, which will be used to fund research for an exhibit called “The Ranch House: Cliff May’s Designs for Modern Living.”
Part of the Getty-sponsored series “Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A., 1945 1980,” this exhibit should be on view at UCSB by the fall of 2011 and will travel on from there. The idea behind this series is to emphasize California post-war art, including architecture.
The University Art Museum was selected because it already boasts an extensive collection of more than 850,000 architectural drawings, photographs, sketchbooks, and other objects from more than 110 architects and designers based in California. This new grant from the Getty is essentially a continuation of the work started by last year’s grant, which gave the museum funds to begin digitizing the architectural collection and make it more easily accessible to researchers.
