What: A gourmet specialty food and cheese shop whose quality and international ingredients combine to create breakfast and lunch staples from good, simple food.

How Much: Craig’s Wine Gems, all less than $10; Italian hero sandwich $7.95 whole, $4.25 half; uno, duo, or trio of salads from the deli case $4.95-$7.95.

The Dish: Metropulos’s bustling marketplace houses Mediterranean culinary gems, a high-quality breakfast and lunch deli, 100 or so wheeled cheeses, and a corner wine section. Owners Craig and Ann Addis have poured their wealth of knowledge of fine ingredients, cheeses, and wine into their welcoming gourmet food emporium in the urban industrial waterfront district (aka the Funk Zone). A red-tiled roof and brick-tinted decorative tiles on the fa§ade mark its signature Santa Barbara style on the exterior, while the interior features imported products from cheeses, to oils, to colorful striped pastas. Customers can enjoy deli case items, whole or half sandwiches, salads, homemade stock-prepared soups, and chocolate-covered macaroons in cafe-style seating indoors and out. Catering, cheese plates, and picnic boxes are also popular to take away and share.
