UCSB’s MultiCultural Center (MCC), one of the university’s-and our community’s-most important institutions, marks its 20th anniversary this year. Each academic year, the MCC offers a plethora of invaluable educational programming and cultural curriculum, open to both UCSB students and the non-matriculating citizens of the S.B. area. The following is a roundup of some of the most noteworthy MCC events to check out this week.

• Art: Race, Lies & Stereotypes: Posters on Racism and Anti-Semitism-Opening reception for new exhibit of striking historical and modern graphics from around the world depicting discrimination through imagery. (Thu., Oct. 8, 4pm. MCC Lounge. Free.)

• Music: An Evening of West African Music with Koumbemba-World music performance by a group known for interweaving a modern reggae sound with traditional African beats. (Sat., Oct. 10, 8pm. MCC Theatre. $5-$15.)

• Talk: The “Latina Moment”: The Nomination and Appointment of Sonia Sotomayor as Supreme Court Justice-Lecture and discussion with UCSB Political Science Professor Pei-te Lien, who will explore aspects of the heated political and social debates prompted by Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court. (Tue., Oct. 13, 6:30pm. MCC Lounge. Free.)
