The Dish: Known for breakfast, lunch, dinner, the bar, the beef, and the Shalhoob name, Jill’s Place is a family-run restaurant and off-site catering business at an off-State Street location. Jill’s Place is the original location of Shalhoob Meat Company (now at 220 Gray Ave.), started by Jill’s father Jerry Shalhoob in 1972 as a one-man retail butcher shop. The retail shop subsequently became a wholesale meat company, providing a number of Santa Barbara County restaurants with their top-of-the-grade corn-fed “choice” beef. Jill took over the Santa Barbara Street location to focus on deli-style lunches and off-site catering, which has now led her to expand the business to be a full-service restaurant and bar, dishing out breakfast, lunch, dinner, and happy hour (Mon.-Fri., 4:30-6:30pm). Six different types of breakfast sandwiches give the restaurant a personal touch, not to mention the local regulars who add to the morning ambience. Lunch is a combination of high-quality ingredients and accommodating pace for the 8-to-5 professional, offering deli sandwiches, quesadillas, deluxe burgers, wraps, burritos, and a wide variety of salads. Enjoy the meat-lovers menu, packed with lamb T-bone, Santa Barbara sirloin, and filet mignon, while sipping on a $6 Happy Hour Special Hornitos Margarita.
