Pot-Laced Cookies Sent High School Girl to Hospital
Officers Arrest Teen Boy Who Brought Drugs to School
The Santa Barbara Sheriff’s Department arrested a Santa Ynez High School student on March 3 for giving marijuana-laced cookies to a schoolmate who ended up in the hospital. The Sheriff’s Dept. responded to a call from Santa Ynez High requesting medical attention for the girl on Tuesday afternoon. The student was taken to SYV Cottage Hospital, where she was examined and later released.
After an investigation, deputies learned that 18-year-old Rodrigo Guzman brought the pot-laced cookies to school and shared them with the victim and one other student during one of their classes. Although Guzman and the other classmate did not report being ill, all three are believed to have eaten the cookies. All three students are suspended from school and there is an investigation pending as to whether the cookies were homemade or from a marijuana dispensary.
Guzman was booked into Lompoc Jail on Wednesday, March 3, for furnishing marijuana to a minor (a felony) and contributing to the delinquency of a minor (a misdemeanor). Bail is set at $20,000.
