Where: 801 Shoreline Drive, 568-0064, shorelinebeachcafe.com

What: A California-style café at Leadbetter Beach serving casual American fare

How Much: Breakfast egg dishes $8.95-$11.95, fish tacos $10.95-$12.95, dinner specials $12.95-$16.95

The Dish: Dig the heels of your green plastic chair into Leadbetter Beach’s sand at Shoreline Beach Café, an oceanfront restaurant across the street from Santa Barbara City College. This beachside setting is so close to the waves that salt from crashing water can season the food. A distinctly Californian menu features omelets and pancakes for breakfast, and tacos, salads, burgers, and sandwiches for lunch and dinner. Double up the Beach Burger for a half-pound juicy patty, nosh on an ahi burrito wrap, or chow down on battered Baja-style fish tacos. No sunset menu is complete without an attractive happy hour, and Shoreline attracts diners and drinkers alike with its “Sunset Sunday Specials,” featuring margaritas, carnitas tacos, quesadillas, buckets of steamed mussels, and Shoreline martinis. Summer hours are Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.- 8 p.m., and Saturday-Sunday, 8:30 a.m.- 8 p.m., excluding holidays.
