Nuns' Fund Embezzler Switches Attorneys

At 8:30 a.m. this morning, June 7, the trial of Denise D’Sant Angelo was continued to tomorrow, June 8, at 8:30 a.m., at which time D’Sant Angelo’s sentencing will reportedly take place.

Today, Judge Jean Dandona allowed the substitution of public defense attorney Joe Allen for Jeff Chambliss, despite the protests of prosecutor Brian Cota who argued that a new attorney would not ethically be ready to argue the case by tomorrow morning, and such a drastic switch would result in a delay of a few weeks to four months.

In reply, Allen argued that the intention of this switch was not for a new trial, but rather to determine and execute the sentencing.
