Tami Zweig Macala, the local Santa Barbara artist behind All Cracked Up Mosaics, recently volunteered with over 20 local high school and junior high students, through PAL, to create her first major civic installation. The new mosaic piece features an abstract take on a map of the earth, created with colorful ceramic tiles and mirror. The piece is covered with thoughtful words like “Peace, Love & Earth.”

Tami had the opportunity to volunteer her time to teach the students how to cut and place tiles into a mosaic mural and the techniques to adhere the tiles to the surface of the mural. “This was a rewarding project personally,” said Macala.

“I have been associated with PAL for a number of years now. Finding this chance to create a local public piece of art with the students was an opportunity I could not pass up. We are all very proud to be part of a project that has beautified this important city park.”

The mural is located on a retaining wall at MacKenzie Park between the baseball field and the playground. You can already find kids on top of it playing and watching baseball games.

Please join us with local dignitaries of Santa Barbara and PAL executives and directors as the wall is dedicated to the kids and the city of Santa Barbara. The ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 2pm at the wall in MacKenzie Park at the corner of Las Positas and State Street.
