Delivering on an idea first floated by students during public forums held last fall, Santa Barbara City College announced this week that scholarships will be available for certain Continuing Education courses when classes resume this fall. Embroiled in controversy since budget troubles forced it first to cancel many classes and then to start charging fees for several historically free Adult Education offerings, SBCC developed the scholarship fund—made possible by donations and student-led fundraising efforts—which aims to make courses available to those unable to afford the fee increases. The deadline to apply for fall scholarships is August 2.
