Each year, dozens of young ladies compete for the honor of being the Junior Spirit and Spirit of Old Spanish Days. This year, 10-year-old Tatum Ortega Vestal (left) won the Junior title, while Erika Martin del Campo, age 20, was crowned Spirit of Fiesta. Del Campo, who is a National Honors Society member and student at Claremont McKenna College in Pomona, said that as Spirit, she hopes to “accentuate her community’s diverse cultures, traditions, and heritage.” Vestal, a 5th grader at Marymount School, is happy to be Junior Spirit so she can “share her passion for dance with the community.”
