At an open house on 11/6, Santa Barbara residents will have a chance to check out the new cabin-style rentals that are being installed in a number of county parks. Held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lookout Beach Park, the open house will showcase two units at the eastern end of the park. The rentals reportedly look like small cabins with front porches, peaked metal roofs, and cedar siding, and are similar to those now used at El Capitan Canyon Resort on the Gaviota Coast. A total of 14 cabins are being purchased by the county with a $700,000 grant from the state. Of those, four will go to Jalama Beach and another four to Cachuma Lake; those cabins should be installed by the end of the year. The remaining six will be divided between Lookout Beach Park in Summerland, Goleta Beach Park, and Toro Canyon Park, and are expected to be operational no later than March 31, 2011.
