Three Demands for Obama
In 2008, I was working as a preschool teacher in Santa Barbara, and I asked my supervisor before election day if I could get a day off to help call people to get them to vote and elect Obama as our President, because after eight years of a president who was ruining our economy by giving tax breaks to his friends the ultra-rich I understood the need of a change, and I saw Obama as the change, not McCain.
Anyway, with lots of hard work by people like myself, we were able to elect Obama as our president. We thought to change things, but after two years of him being president I am sorry to say I do not see much of a change. President Bush in his eight years gave us massive debts. Now Obama is talking about changing that, but not in the way we the people voted him in for.
These are my demands to the President.
First, number one, stop the tax breaks to the rich. If the Republicans will not go along with it please us your veto power: Bush did several times; you can, too. The ultra-rich need to pay their share of taxes, and that and only that will help get us out of the deficit. Demand number two, stop the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, there is no reason for us to be there; neither country attacked us. That also will reduce our deficit; war is too costly. Number three, do not increase the retirement age. By doing that, you make more of us older people continue working, and there will be fewer jobs for the young people; and do not reduce our Social Security or Medicare, my husband and I have worked many long hard years for it.
