Fuel Spill Disrupts Traffic on Coast Village Road

Five Gallons of Diesel Fuel Mixed with Water Reach Storm Drains

A small fuel leakage from a large semi-truck caused significant delays on Coast Village Road in Montecito this morning.

The semi was pulling into the parking area of the Coast Village Shopping Center around 6:15 a.m. when the 25 gallon diesel tank which supplies the trailer’s refrigeration was punctured, leading to the spill. The fuel spill was made more substantial because of the wet road from rain last night, city officials said.

Roughly five gallons of diesel fuel and water had reached a storm drain before firefighters were able to contain it. Crews will continue cleaning up the mess into the afternoon.
