A judge denied former USC baseball player Taylor Grigsby’s motion for a new trial on 4/19 and allowed Grigsby to recover the $335,000 he won via jury trial plus expenses against the Regents of the University of California. Grigsby, who was injured in a 2008 baseball game against UCSB, filed suit after he collided with a plank of wood concealed in the grass at UCSB’s baseball stadium, shattering his knee and, he said, ending his opportunity to pursue a career in major league baseball. Grigsby and his family turned down a settlement offer from the university for $400,000.
