Goleta police officers arrested 39-year-old KC Ray Goodwin early yesterday morning on drug charges after he led authorities on a short car chase and, after stopping and jumping out of his car, charged one of the officers.

At around 1:45 a.m., Goodwin was observed driving “in an erratic manner in the area of Alondra Drive and Mallard Avenue,” said Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars, when an officer tried to pull him over. Goodwin ignored the officer and took off, said Sugars, and began driving south on Highway 101. He eventually stopped two miles down the road at Del Monaco Drive and Via El Cuadro.

“Once Goodwin exited the vehicle, he rushed the officer, who was forced to use his Taser to subdue the suspect,” said Sugars. Deputies searched his car and reportedly found 30 grams of methamphetamine, 0.2 grams of heroin, three tablets of hydromorphone, and two knives.

Goodwin was booked into County Jail for a parole violation warrant and is on a no bail hold. He is being investigated for possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell and evading a peace officer.
