The Dish: Cajun Kitchen serves hearty country breakfast and highly spiced Creole lunch specialties daily at six locations from Ventura to Lompoc. The original location is on De la Vina Street in tight quarters, spilling out onto a wooden deck with outdoor seating. In a Louisiana fashion, meats and fish are blackened and served with eggs on the side or as entrées fired with a tasty combination of Cajun spices. Breakfast includes a variety of egg dishes, from Benedict to omelets served with a choice of home fries, hash browns, or grits plus a choice of toast, tortillas, biscuits, muffins, or homemade cornbread. Also popular are short stacks of blueberry and wheat-germ pancakes. Lunch ranges from shrimp “po’boy” sandwiches, red beans and rice, and a delightful Cajun burger to Bourbon Street chili or seafood gumbo. Try the Cajun Combo midday for a sampler of red beans and rice served with a bowl of gumbo.
