On May 11, 2011, Biff Charlton, President of the Cuyama Valley Exchange Club and Head Grower, Mike Thorp, representing Duncan Family Farms donated a combined total of $5,000 for aquatics scholarships and pool supplies for the residents of the Cuyama Valley and the Joseph Centeno Aquatics Complex. Brian Roney, Interim Parks Director was on hand to accept the checks on behalf of the Santa Barbara County Parks Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting parks and programming to the residents of Santa Barbara County. The donations will be used to sponsor aquatic programs, such as swim lessons and water aerobics, as well as aquatic scholarships for the local youth. Santa Barbara County Parks will use the donations to purchase a swim teaching platform, child swim vests, kickboards, pull buoys and water aerobics equipment.

“This is a great example of a community stepping up to help its neighbors,” said Santa Barbara County Fifth District Supervisor, Steve Lavagnino. “The donation will allow our Parks Department to expand recreational opportunities at the pool that otherwise wouldn’t be available.”

Sunday, May 29, 2011 the Cuyama Booster Club is sponsoring a summer 2011 grand re-opening of the Joseph Centeno Aquatics Complex. Join the Cuyama community at noon for a barbeque and pool fun. More donations will be accepted at this time and all barbeque money will go to the youth of the Cuyama Valley.
