Santa Barbara shoppers can look forward to an “easy to shop layout” and a “single line checkout for fast service” in the new Marshalls store at 900 State Street. On August 4 at 8 a.m., a ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place after which shoppers can stroll through rows of footwear, accessories, home merchandise, and designer apparel for men, women, and children.

“With the addition of the Santa Barbara store, Marshalls is meeting consumer demand for quality, designer merchandise,” said Marshalls president Michael MacMillan in a statement. “Our newest store will offer shoppers the same designer names they know and trust at prices well below department stores.”

Within the new 38,015-square-foot location, buyers will find a Marshalls Shoe Shop. “Our exciting new Marshalls Shoe Shop offers thousands of designer shoes with new styles arriving several times each week. Just pick out your favorite style, and look for your size in the boxes under the display,” said Marshalls spokesperson Sonya Cosentini.

Representatives also said that young women will find inspiration in The CUBE, which is Marshalls’s new “high-energy in-store boutique.” Designer clothes and accessories will be displayed according to style instead of by size, which reps say will make it easier for shoppers to assemble a head-to-toe outfit.

The off-price retail chain adds 60 full- and part-time jobs to the Santa Barbara area. The new Marshalls takes over from book and music retailer Borders which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February. Consequently, Borders closed 226 stores nationwide, including the one on State Street as well as the one in Camino Real Marketplace in Goleta.

Grand opening hours are 8 a.m. – 10 p.m. Regular hours will be 9:30 a.m. – 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. – 8 p.m. on Sundays.
