Man Allegedly Tries to Throw New Wife Off Hotel Balcony

John Gibbs, a 45-year-old salesman from Concord, was arrested at the Canary Hotel Wednesday morning on domestic violence charges after he allegedly tried to throw his new wife off a balcony.

According to a police report, the couple was married the previous day, Valentine’s Day. The alleged victim called her friend that night, saying she was “afraid for her life” after she and Gibbs got into an argument that reportedly led to him beating her. She said that he threatened to throw her off the balcony, then commit suicide himself. The victim also sent the friend pictures of bruising on her arms and face.

The friend, according to the report, contacted the police the next morning and showed them the pictures. An officer responded to the couple’s hotel room and talked to the alleged victim, who showed him the bruises herself, saying that they were from her husband holding her down on the bed. The victim explained how Gibbs grabbed her by the feet and tried to drag her out onto the balcony, but was unsuccessful. She also told the officer that Gibbs put her in a choke-hold and slammed her head into the bathroom wall.

Gibbs denied all of the allegations, saying that the injuries were the result of “rough sex.” His bail was set at $25,000.
