Superintendent Talks Common Core State Standards

In a back-to-school press conference, Superintendent David Cash discussed the implementation of new educational standards for math and language arts instruction called the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) that have been adopted by 48 states and Washington, D.C. As Cash put it, the current California standards—adopted in 1997—emphasize facts and skills while the CCSS—to be fully implemented in the 2014-2015 school year—emphasizes relevance to the world outside of educational settings. They also implement digital technology.
