Sports Highlights: August 29-September 2

Santa Barbara’s weekly summer waterfront races come to an end this week, the Nite Moves on Wednesday, August 29, and the Reef & Run on Thursday.

The hardiest endurance runners will tackle the Pier to Peak Half Marathon on Sunday.

High school football enters its second week. San Marcos and Carpinteria will play home games Friday night, while Bishop Diego will host Santa Ynez at La Playa Stadium on Saturday. SBCC will play all five of its home games on Friday nights, starting this week when the Vaqueros face county rival Allan Hancock College of Santa Maria.

In other college sports Friday, Westmont hosts Marymount in a soccer double-header, and UCSB hosts Indiana in women’s soccer. The Gaucho women’s volleyball team takes on Idaho, Northeastern and UCLA in a women’s volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday.

Grants Farm Manor and Lucchese will play for the Bombardier Pacific Coast Open championship trophy on Sunday at the Santa Barbara Polo Club. The two 20-goal polo teams also are scheduled to meet Thursday in their final round-robin match.
