Chumash Give $100,000 to Boys and Girls Club

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians gave a $100,000 check to Magda Arroyo, director of the cash-strapped Westside Boys and Girls Club, to help keep the organization afloat. The money was raised during the Chumash’s annual golf fundraiser this August, its proceeds typically split among several nonprofits. But based on the Boys and Girls Club’s need — and the service it’s providing — the Chumash opted to give them all the money. “The Chumash are the reason we’re still open,” said Arroyo. But, she added, it’s still not enough to get the Westside organization out of its financial hole.
