Goodland Kitchen

It’s not very often an establishment offers a “You Want It, You Got It” Party, but that’s exactly what Goodland Kitchen Market ([805] 845-4300, 231 S. Magnolia Ave., Goleta, goodlandkitchen.com) is throwing on Saturday, November 3, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. They’ll be kicking off being open on Saturdays with all the tenants of the kitchen offering complimentary samples (including empanadas from Rodrigo Gimenez, winner of The Santa Barbara Independent’s Sizzling Summer BBQ Contest amateur division, and Chumash Cookie Co. treats, made with acorn flour) and the kitchen itself kicking off a new weekend menu. “During the week, we know our customers want really fast service because they need to get back to work. But on the weekend, people have more leisure time,” explains general manager Melissa Fontaine. “We hope people will come read the newspaper and sip coffee under our umbrellas while they wait for their French toast. Chef Julia [Crookston] is really looking forward to French toast. It’s the kind you wish you had growing up, with real vanilla and maple syrup. We think the pulled pork breakfast quesadilla will be a real crowd-pleaser, with Niman Ranch pork on a flour tortilla. We’ll also have gluten-free options, which many customers have been requesting.”
