A man who died while diving near Santa Cruz Island has been identified as Solvang resident William Ooms, 59.
Ooms was reported missing around 12:20 p.m. Friday by the group he had been with on a 22-foot dive boat on the north side of Santa Cruz Island. The U.S. Coast Guard responded, and the group Ooms was with also continued searching for the man. They ultimately located his body four hours later, according to authorities.
The Sheriff’s Department is looking into the cause and manner of his death.
