Deputies Help Duck Family in Distress
Mother and Ducklings Were Under Stopped Car on Hollister Avenue
A pair of Santa Barbara Sheriff’s deputies on their way to interview a subject April 21 wound up helping a mamma duck and her ducklings in distress on a busy Goleta street.
According to Sheriff’s spokesperson Kelly Hoover, the deputies came across traffic backed up on Hollister Avenue near Ward Drive and noticed people gathering next to one of the cars. Under the vehicle was a mother duck and her ducklings taking refuge from the hot asphalt. They had run into the shade when the car stopped at a red light.
The deputies got a box from a nearby hotel and quickly shooed the duck family into it. They then drove the mini-flock to Lake Los Carneros and set it free. Onlookers, Hoover said, cheered and clapped as the ducks made their way to the water.
