The May Revise version of the state budget drew praise from Santa Barbara’s state legislators. Assemblymember Das Williams, chair of the Higher Education Committee, commended Gov. Jerry Brown for proposing a nearly $20 billion boost in education funding, including $89 billion for community college enrollments. Both he and Sen. Hannah-Beth Jackson also lauded the governor’s K-12 funding formula aimed at shifting more resources to the neediest students. Overall, Jackson offered more muted optimism in a statement, expressing concern that funding cuts to the courts were not reversed and that more money isn’t going to early childhood education.
