Recap: Breaking Bad, “Rabid Dog”
Jesse Turns Against Walter, Joins Forces with Hank
AMC’s Original Series, Breaking Bad has done it again. With their fifth and final season, the show’s writers are continuously delivering a keep-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat experience. Just take Sunday’s episode, “Rabid Dog.”
With only four episodes left in the series, viewers may find themselves asking, “How in the world is this going to play out?”
It seems Bryan Cranston’s character, Walter White grows progressively more complex with each episode, shedding another layer to reveal his increasingly dark side. Ironically enough, the tables turned in on Sunday, when Walter’s right-hand man, Jesse Pinkman (played by Aaron Paul) joined forces with Walter’s DEA brother-in-law, Hank (played by Dean Norris). Jesse falls at the feet of Hank when he learns Walt had intentionally poisoned his girlfriend’s son — all with good intention, Walt explains.
But Jesse knows Walt all too well and has seen him face a multitude of impossible situations and come out on top. The episode’s “rabid dog” ultimately ends up to be Jesse, who is the newest in a long line of setbacks for Walt and his wife, Skylar White (played by Anna Gunn). When Walt confronts his ally and lawyer about what to do, Saul uses the Old Yeller metaphor to drive the point home.
The episode also finds us yet again surprised by Skylar’s character. Over the course of the show she has truly transformed from the woman who was ready to divorce Walt to his accomplice. “We’ve come this far, for us,” she tells Walt as she tries to rationalize offing Jesse. “What’s one more? What is one more dead body in this mess?”
The show concludes with Walt making a phone call after his meeting with Jesse to explain that “things” didn’t end up happening.
“Todd, I think I might have another job for your uncle,” Walt says into the phone. We can only guess what that means. The last job Walt had Todd’s uncle do ended with a drug deal gone wrong and 10 jailed men being killed. Is Jesse next? Could Walt actually kill Jesse after everything they’ve been through? Only time — and Breaking Bad’s next four episodes — will tell.
