FREE 4-weekend Self Defense course starts on Saturday October 5th at 12:00 PM. Available women of all ages.

On Saturday mornings during October, local women are invited to participate in the “WOMEN IN CHARGE PROGRAM”. A Self Defense course, specifically designed for women.

The free program, open to the public, covers techniques and methods to prevent and respond to most common aggressions, and provides an introduction to basic self-defense aspects of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Classes are held at the Gracie Barra Santa Barbara Academy, located downtown at 1014 State Street.

The final meeting of the Self Defense series will be held on Saturday October 26th at 12:00 PM. A closing ceremony will be held on the same day, and participants who attended all four class sessions will receive a certificate of completion and a coupon good for 30 days of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training.

A parent or guardian must accompany any participant under 18 years of age and sign a weaver prior to the first session.

The Self Defense curriculum begins with a discussion of the concerns that each participant has in regards to safety. The program clearly covers what the most common attacks against women are typically executed, and how affectively react to each situation. We stress appropriate responses to physical attacks, and how to avoid conflicts and harmful physical confrontations.

The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques that we teach provide a foundation for effective self-defense and good conditioning. These are keys to self- esteem and self-confidence. We hope to help women to develop the mental and physical tools they need to stay in top shape, along with teaching effective ways to evade, neutralize and overcome an attacker if necessary.

Anyone interested in receiving more information about upcoming WOMEN IN CHARGE COURSE should visit us at 1014 State Street, or call 805-845-2272.
