UC Creates Task Force to Combat Sexual Violence

University of California President Janet Napolitano announced the creation of a task force to prevent sexual violence on campuses. Composed of regents, Title IX officers, administrators, students, and others, the task force’s establishment comes three months after UC updated its policy to coincide with the federal Violence Against Women Act. The new policy explicitly defines terms such as consent, increases reporting requirements, broadens victim protections, and increases prevention programs. The policy also specifies sanctions that the university can impose following a disciplinary determination.
