Sam Cathcart Dies
Sam Cathcart – a World War II combat veteran; UCSB Gaucho and San Francisco 49er football player; and head coach of the Santa Barbara High Dons for 19 seasons (1955-74) – died Friday night, April 3, at Cottage Hospital. He was 90.
Scott Cathcart said his father was surrounded by family members in his final hours. “It was time,” Scott said. “Cancer took a lot out of him. We’re going to miss him. He was the center of my life.”
