Chromeo and Glitch Mob at the Bowl

It’s no surprise Chromeo, Glitch Mob, and Com Truise amazed fans at the Santa Barbara Bowl last Saturday night. The evening opened with the “excavator of slow-motion funk,” Com Truise. It was a short but sweet set and had people dancing in their seats, in line to buy beer and wine, and even at the merch stand.

Glitch Mob came on stage precisely at 6:30 p.m. With the release of their highly anticipated short documentary on The Blade and native Goletan Justin Boreta’s (one-third of Glitch Mob) first Santa Barbara performance, the show promised to be an exciting one. And so it was. Their acclaimed music blew the crowd away, but what was captivating were the hypnotic visuals—it was amazing to see each member collaborate in front of your eyes. Each song was partnered with themed graphics and motto–some taken from the song title and some not–including “We Can Make the World Stop,” “Let Me Free,” “and “We Are the Wild Ones.”

Next came headliners Chromeo. Dressed in FUNKLORDZ-appropriate attire, they opened with “Night by Night,” a classic from their album Business Casual. Chromeo absolutely rocked the Bowl, playing tracks from new album White Women and 2004’s She’s in Control. There were waves of disappointed “aws” coming from the crowd when the set ended at 9:43 p.m. Then “Encore! Encore!” and Chromeo reappeared on stage and performed my favorite song “Needy Girl.”

Sadly, the night was over after a sweet shout out from Dave 1 to P-Thugg, Glitch Mob, and Com Truise. Hands down the best show of the season. Funk on, Santa Barbara.
